Saddlecreek Lake, ID

So this happened a while ago (not this summer). I never got around to doing anything with these photos though, and since I began looking through our photos to finally choose some to get framed I stumbled upon these and figured I should make use of them. We went to this lake with Charly's parents and Sister's family along with his brother Daniel...and maybe Joe? Since everyone just wanted to fish and that's not really my thing- and its definitely not my thing for like three hours- I explored around the lake and down some of the streams. There was this super cute photo of Charly and I that I had Daniel take with my camera and then printed in the dark room for my parents but maybe I didn't scan that negative? Because I can't find it. So here's just some regular black and whites that I did scan.

I feel like 50 percent of lakes in Idaho have a sketchy rope swing where you have to guess if the water is high enough to let go or if the way it swings will injure you in some way or if the rope will just hold in general. I am usually not the first to try these things, but I do try them.

The Fins, ID

A few of us went up to the Fins last week. I really, really, love that place. It's become busier since Jonathan Siegrist went up there and set the hardest route in Idaho up there (14d). It's world class rock with a steep hike to get there but the climbing is my style- crimps and pockets that are extremely sharp and technical...it just needs a little bit more of an overhang though. We got on an unnamed route, a route I don't know the name of, and Yellow Man (of course).

I'm still nursing my gimp legs back to health so I left the nice camera at home and just used my phone to make the hiking easier. If you can't tell, the Fins are called the "Fins" because of how the rock comes out of the ground in tall skinny flakes looking like...you know, fins.

Summer Stoke

Well I'm not sure if you could honestly call it summer here, but the weather is pretty enjoyable. It's chilly in the morning, and no matter what month it is it gets into the forties at night. Although, in the day it has started to gradually warm up into the eighties, this summer has been taking its sweet time to get to those temps. I'm used to Florida where it is either warm or it is hot and there really isn't a whole lot of wiggle room except for the occasional hurricane. So when we have a few rainy days in the middle of June over here in Idaho and it gets so cold that in the afternoon you're fingers are numb on the rock it throws you through a little bit of culture shock. Anyways, here are some of the things Charly and I have done this "summer."

>We went to a drive in with friends. We watched Godzilla and it was alright. I honestly just get bored during movies no matter how interesting they are, but Charly liked it more.

>I learned how to skip stones. I'm pretty much too legit to quit now...

>We attended the funeral of my cousin Matt Harker. We would never choose to all meet under such circumstances, but it was such a sweet and special time to be with family and see how much support there can be when the need calls for it. I snapped this photo of one of Matt and Stacy's sons, Sawyer,  while getting ready the day of.

>Charly continues to cycle a few mornings a week and on the TNRs. I've loved seeing the effect cycling has on his life all around. I've usually felt like I'm the one who is more interested in my personal health, but his ambition to be a better cyclist has kept us both making healthier lifestyle decisions lately. The last TNR he did 50 miles and kept up pretty well with the guys. We both ended that day with a lot of stoke because...

>...I went climbing with Jenna and Stephen and sent Drive-by-Trucker on lead. It's the first route outdoors that I've ever really truly projected and sent, and it's one that I had hopped on once or twice in years prior and thought I'd probably never really do. So it means a lot to send it- and on my first go of that day! I've loved projecting it and working it and basically just obsessing over it. I often find myself mentally making each move and working through the story of that route and my other project (What's the Point) while in sacrament meeting, as I'm falling asleep, or in-between conversations with people. I think you get the picture.
Just a victory selfie on the car ride home:)

>We haven't mountain biked as much as I anticipated and not nearly as much as last year, but we have gotten out a bit and have plans to pick it up more soon.

>Lots of Chuck's side of the family came and visited (Steven and Jolyn, Chaely and James, and Nate and Marcy plus all of their kids). We have made the drive up to Blackfoot four days in the past week or so, and have been doing as much as we can with them while they are coming and going for the week (along with the Youngs, Charly's parents, and grandparents, Daniel, Joe, and the Andrades). There is so much love in that family and I am so happy to be a part of it. As of yesterday they have all made their way back home, but some of the highlights of that week were:

      >>Climbing with James, Chaely, and Dan at Pointless.
Sadly the only photo I got as I waited for Charly to pick everyone up at the meeting point.

      >>Taking Natalie and Lucas for a swim while their parents attended the temple, eating Pizza Pie Cafe with them, and climbing at the shop afterwards.

      >>The talent show that everyone participated in- some of my favorites had to be Chaely's song and the family stories our parents and grandparents told along with all the wonderful music and Natalie's handstand (but if you ask anyone else they would probably say it was the chin people). For anyone who is wondering, our talent was a dog trick off where Maycee and Koda performed tricks against each other. I'm pretty sure Koda won that one.

      >>Watching the sunset with Charly's parents, Steve and Jolyn, and Daniel. We pulled out some homemade picnic blankets and laughed and talked for about an hour until the sun slipped away and a cold draft of air washed over us. I'm trying to remember and keep that peaceful feeling in my life because it felt really, really, good.

>Per tradition, we celebrated the night of the fourth at the Turpin's eating burgers and shooting shot guns before we went over to Charly's parents house.

>But not before we did some bridge jumping to cool off and filled our tummies with tacos.

>Lastly, my mom sent us a dozen mangos along with an early birthday card for Charly. She buys them from a house on Merritt Island and you won't ever find one nearly as delicious as these in Idaho.
I know I look super tired in this photo- it was the day after we hiked Table and I had just woken up.
