Can You Spot the Avalanche?

This weekend was good. Having to convince Charly that we cannot buy "Warm Bodies" because I feel like my zombie nightmares have finally faded away, injuring my shoulder climbing, and working late Saturday weren't the most exciting moments...but climbing past the hurt Saturday and then exploring Mesa Falls on our sled definitely brought it all back. Not to mention the single best decision Chuck and I have made in months, which would be to end our day at an old fashioned pizza joint in Ashton that we hadn't eaten at before. As we shared a pizza, my side veggie and his all meaty and what not with a side of bread sticks and well made huckleberry shake (you can always know if a restaurant is good if they can give you an original tasting huckleberry shake and ranch) I just kept thinking/saying "I am so happy- aren't you just so happy right now?" To which Chuck smiled and then responded ten minutes later that he thinks he "might've just found his new favorite place." I don't know the name of the place, but to find it you basically just drive through Ashton and I'm pretty sure it's on Main Street.

We went to Mesa last year but it just didn't compare this time. Probably the timing of the day we went, but as we unloaded our sled and started our ride last weekend we were already chasing the light...with very cold heads since we loaned a friend our only baklavas. The late start made for a more solitary ride with not many other sledders around and the soft light descending into the canyon created a purply blue sky that was divided from blankets of untouched snow by a layer of deep green trees. Essentially, this was my view for a good portion of the ride:
Only the snow didn't look so blue.

As we took a break to look at the falls we realized that the stairs were basically sheets of ice and we ended up turning them into an ice slide opportunity. Well, I did. Chuck's pant's were practically carhart so he didn't go as far, but it's scary the level of stoke you can get from me when I find this sort of stuff unexpectedly. I still try to relive the day in my head that a crew of us went and built a jump in Green Canyon and then realized said jump had a terrible landing and decided to turn it into a sixty foot slide that went through two snow tunnels as you tried to keep your feet up and your butt on the shovel while sliding down it.

Some Quick Updates

Charly and I have worked a couple of extra Saturdays since Joe started working on and off in North Dakota. He works two weeks on, two weeks off, for the next four months and so we try to be at the shop as much as we can. It does make it a little bit harder to get out since the shop closes at three on Saturdays and we lose any and all light by six, but we still find ways. Last Saturday we made the drive out to Enlosure in Jackson, and this Saturday we are talking about going on an explorative sledding ride. Usually when we sled it's with the goal to find a good place to find a jump or the best powder, but with so little time we will probably just visit Mesa Falls or just bum around Green Canyon. I've started learning how to boon dock the sled and my oh my, it is not a graceful process.

The only photo I got of our climbing trip.

For President's day Chuck had to work at Amet and I worked at the shop and then closed a little early and met up with family for a birthday pool party for my nephew. Aside from the pool party, Charly and I have been getting good use out of that hot tub. It's perfect for soaking in after a run on the treadmill or for warming up in after a day on the snowy mountain, especially on those icy-wind-punching-you-in-the-face-all-the-way-down days.

Aside from that, it's just been the same old same old. Yellow potted flowers for valentines day, Charly finishing his bike build (almost-is a custom bike ever perfect?), and him having to remind me that this:

isn't "snow hail", but sleet.
