Sawtooths 2015

About 4 or 5 weeks after my first hip surgery we had our annual Sawtooth trip. We weren't sure if we'd be able to make it, but I met with my physical therapist on Tuesday instead of Thursday so that we could go for at least a short while. She cleared me to gradually come off crutches and just use a walking stick while on the trip. The hardest part was actually sleeping. Eliza kept us up the entire first night, our air pads kept deflating, and I ended up sleeping in the car because of my hip. It made for some groggy "why did we do this" thoughts in the middle of the night, but it always felt worth it when we woke up.

^^When we went on this camping trip, I remember thinking that Eliza seemed SO big at the time. Now, looking back at her, she seems so small!

^^That bird came and landed on my knee while we were blessing the food!

I was cleared to go on a very short hike if I did well when coming off crutches. We took the boat shuttle across the lake and then hiked a half mile up to Lily lake. I think it should've been renamed Lily swamp because it really wasn't that impressive. We read that if you hiked further there was a 25ft waterfall, so we continued onward, but the trail wasn't clear and we couldn't find it. We ended up going further than I anticipated so we just headed back. It was a good thing that I had my "good" leg to compensate for some of the work, but my body definitely paid for it for like, 2 weeks. And we hardly went anywhere haha.

^^More of the hike.

We spent the next day at the lake and there were lots of firsts for Eliza on this trip. First boat ride, first sand experience (she loved it), first sleeping in the outdoors, all followed by her passing out cold on the car ride home. She didn't even wake when we stopped to get gas and aside from nursing three times slept a 14 (!) hour stretch.
