The Fourth

Our fourths are almost always spent at the Turpin's place with BBQ and shotguns. This time a few friends flew in to join the celebration- including Dylan and his wife, Chris and his wife, and Garrett along with his family. It's like a huge high school get together for all of Charly's buddies, except they are taking care of little kids now. It was a nice way to spend the day after a failed attempt at biking the pass before getting over this cold. I had had this grand illusion of sticking the gap jump that I got stitches on last year on the very same day, but I was just too tired. You know that feeling when you're body just doesn't work right? It's mostly likely what the completely uncoordinated feel like. While on my bike I just couldn't balance right and was short of breath, I felt exhausted so we headed home early.
Chris had some of these left over from his wedding. They supposedly worked really well then, but they just kind of petered out after a short take off for us. Something about the air temperatures not being right? And that, ladies and gentlemen, was our night.

(As well as watching the largest fire work show in the midwest or something nuther on our way home. We were originally going to be driving home after it, but because it got delayed for reasons that are unrelated to us and a bit too somber to post for no reason (plus the controversy!), we got to see the show.)

Oh, and I guess I should say how thankful I am for the freedoms we do have. Our goverment is not perfect, it never will be, but it is so much greater than most of, if not all of (as a whole, not individual parts) what's out there. This is the first year I think that really sunk in for me.
