We did our first multi-pitch out in Box Canyon. Neither of us had climbed there before and we couldn't get our hands on a guidebook so we went off of the internet. So basically we ended up on the wrong route with not nearly enough draws haha. We meant to do a route called Nappy Dreads on the Shade Wall, but ended up on the only other route on that wall, which was Spirit World. Nappy Dreads is 2 pitches of easy climbing and then the last pitch is 5.10, while Spirit World is 1 pitch of easy climbing and then another pitch that is 5.11, both suuuper slabby. Long story short, we did the first pitch and I got up the the first ten bolts (2/3 of the way) of the second pitch before I ran out of draws and we bailed. We didn't even realize our mistake until weeks later when we got guide book, and it was kind of funny. I was so nervous I wouldn't be able to lead slabby 5.10. We weren't even planning on doing the third pitch on Nappy Dread partially because of that and also because Charly hasn't climbed in so long (as well as the fact the we only had so much time away from Eliza). When we bailed and talked about going back someday in my head I was still like "man, I wonder if I'll be able to do that last pitch," so its amusing to me that I was really leading a grade harder all along and completely unaware of it. That just goes to show you what a horrible lead head I have. 5.11 is easily in my skill range, but I know that if we go back I'll be more nervous then than I was the first time.
We also ran out of draws on the first pitch, but Charly was climbing into some territory that was he was getting sketched out by anyways so he came down and then I went up and cleaned the first part of the route to get more draws. It was definitely an eventful first multi-pitch climb but I love how well we worked together. We had practiced a lot of the skills- mostly self rescue skills we didn't really need- geared up with a rope hanging off our hang board and it made it so all the technical aspects were easy peasy.
